My favorite example of irony. I was editor of my high school paper (mumbledy-three years ago) and the English teacher in charge of the paper wrote this very prominently on the board for our first day. While most of the rest of high school remains a pot-shrouded blur (after all, it was mumbledy-some years ago, when that sort of thing was "cool"), this is a lesson I have never forgotten.

For those of you who do not have a deep enough understanding of the English language to understand this (and I am NOT referring to you here, Anna!), here is an interesting interpretation from Wikipedia:

Eschew obfuscation, also stated as: "eschew obfuscation, espouse elucidation", is a common humorous saying of English teachers and professors when lecturing about proper writing techniques.

Literally, the meaning is "avoid unclarity, adopt clarity", but the extremely uncommon usage of the words in the English language, as well as the fact that their very usage causes confusion and unclarity, make the phrase a prime example of irony.

Another good example of irony: Eddie Van Halen checking in to rehab for "unspecified reasons."
